Supervisory Interdisciplinary Architect/Engineer

Serves as Chief of the Architectural and Engineering Services Branch, Design and Construction Division. Supervises professional architects, engineers and other specialists in providing services for GSA and other Federal agencies. Provides expert technical advice for a broad complex subject matter field and on the overall planning and programming requirements for the scope development, design, construction, and operation of new buildings or the repair and alteration or extension of existing facilities. Conducts architectural-engineering diagnostic studies and comparative design analyses recommending solutions of problems in designated structures to be included in the current repair and alteration program and/or the agency's construction program to be submitted to Congress. Performs professional review, technical evaluation, assessment, and recommendation through the comparative analysis of progressive design and construction documents, including the resolution of complex design and/or construction problems, and providing the appropriate design and operational direction to agency officials, client agencies, and contract A-E firms, or appropriate construction direction to the contracting officer and construction contractors. Establishes the architectural-engineering diagnosis, scope development design, and coordinates the preparation of complete design documents on through construction completion, commissioning, and operation of the completed projects. The GS-14 salary range starts at $114,219 per year. If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. For the Engineer job series, applicants must meet one of the following:
Degree:
Professional Engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. Degree:
Professional Engineering including differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than 1st year physics and chemistry) in 5 of the following areas:
statics, dynamics; strength of materials; fluid mechanics, hydraulics; thermodynamics; electrical fields and circuits; nature and properties of material (relating to particle and aggregate structure to properties) and any other comparable area of engineering science or physics such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. College level education, training and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques, and their applications to one of the branches of engineering, evidenced by current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. College level education, training and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques, and their applications to one of the branches of engineering, evidenced by successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination. College level education, training and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques, and their applications to one of the branches of engineering, evidenced by successfully passing the written test administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rico. College level education, training and/or technical experience -- evidenced by successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in Option B above. Courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum. College level education, training and/or technical experience - evidenced by successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology), AND at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. For the Architect job series, applicants must meet one of the following:

Architecture, or related field which includes 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines. This course of study must have included as a minimum:
(1) 30 semester hours in architectural design:

college level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnishes (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE PROVIDED TO SHOW YOU MEET THE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS.In addition to meeting the basic qualifications, you must demonstrate at lease one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience in the design and construction of large, complex project(s) where the individual has coordinated the activities of architects, engineers, tenant agencies and construction contractors. Experience should also include directing all or large phases of a project including planning, pre-design, Architect/Engineer selection, site selection, and all design efforts, reviewing operations to evaluate progress and compliance with design requirements. This experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.In order to be considered qualified, applicants must be a registered architect and/or engineer in the United States or a U.S. territory. A COPY OF YOUR REGISTRATION MUST BE INCLUDED IN YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE. The selectee must obtain and maintain a license as an Architect/Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineer in at least one state within the GSA Northwest/Arctic Region.
