Under general supervision, coaches, instructs, observes, mentors and provides leadership for teachers and other staff in culturally appropriate academic, social, behavioral and other educational skill areas in relationship to the area assigned for Instructional Coaching. Counsels, disciplines and supervises to meet the individual needs of assigned students; also maintains data and coordinates assessments/progress records for all assigned students in their progress toward state and federal accountability standards.
1. Work collaboratively with Curriculum Coordinator to provide in-class mentoring for assigned staff, coaching sessions, leadership, regular in-class visitations/observations and facilitate regular grade level meetings.
2. Work with program staff and outside consultants to implement strategies of effective instructional practices. Maintain student/class data so that all children receive the needed quantity of instruction to reach grade level standards through the use of scientifically research-based comprehensive core programs along with aligned and coordinated scientifically research-based supplemental and intervention programs chosen by the school.
3. Develop an assessment plan with specific timelines using valid and reliable assessments for screening, diagnostic, progress monitoring and outcomes. Facilitate the administration of placement tests and program specific progress monitoring assessments specific to all children and coordinate the instruction of children at their instructional level as indicated by assessments.
4. Actively participate in learning the Muckleshoot culture, language, customs and traditions in order to support the goals and objectives of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe for the Muckleshoot Tribal School.
5. Support in the establishment and implementation of reasonable and culturally appropriate classroom rules and procedures governing student behavior and conduct. Provide guidance, counseling and discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; monitor student learning and behavior regularly and seek administrative assistance where appropriate.
6. Confer with teachers, students, parents/guardians and other staff to provide guidance and evaluation and to encourage student achievement and/or modify assignments or expectations when appropriate.
7. Support in the creation of classrooms that are conducive to learning and establishing classroom goals/objectives in conformance with courses of study specific to Washington State, Bureau of Indian Education and Muckleshoot Indian Tribe regulations and guidelines. Collect data, interpret data, evaluate and record student progress, prepare reports on process and provide support based on data.
8. Understand and meet the responsibility of coaching and teaching in culturally appropriate ways to enhance and support Muckleshoot and Native American students towards success in a school setting.
Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
Required: Graduation from a four (4) year college or university with a degree in education, counseling or related field, a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with a specific endorsement in assigned area of instructional coaching (significant experience in instructional coaching or counseling may be considered in lieu of a teaching certificate), five (5) years classroom teaching experience in coaching area, and two (2) years mentoring/coaching or support work outside of the classroom.
Preferred: Master's Degree
Knowledge of: Subject areas appropriate to coaching assignment; Effective classroom behavior management techniques; Effective teaching practices for working with Native American students; Rules and procedures for student safety; Proficient use of reading, writing and oral communications; Experiences and sensitivity toward Native American education issues; Coaching processes; Various assessment tools. Skill in: Effective oral and written communication with students, parents or guardians, staff and administrators; Providing instruction and demonstrating strategies for adult and student understanding; Dealing with students in a positive and confident manner. Ability to: Handle confidential matters and information in a professional manner; Work with teachers in a way that improves student learning; Work effectively in the Muckleshoot Tribal community.
